World Bank to further assist eastern development with $ 900 million
The World Bank Vice President for South Asia Isabela Guerrero said that most countries in the world which are faced with the threat of terrorism are now emerging from that threat by eliminating terrorism.World Bank Vice President, Guerrero made these observations when met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa to assure the continuous engagement of the World Bank with Sri Lanka in carrying out development activities including in the North and East.
World Bank Vice President informed President Rajapaksa that the organization will provide an additional grant of USD 900 million for the development activities of the East in the next five years.

Sri Lanka tea board signs import agreement with India
The Tea Board of Sri Lanka and Tea Board of India yesterday signed a mutual recognition agreement for tea coming into each of the countries
According to the tea Board sources, it was a comprehensive economic partnership agreement and the agreement would enable free flow of tea into each other’s country without having to go through the process of testing.
According to the FTA with Sri Lanka, the Indian side allows a duty of 7.5 million up to 15 million kg of imports from Sri Lanka though the same is not applicable for Indian imports into Sri Lanka. For re-exports it’s zero duty in both countries.
Sri Lanka’s exports from orthodox tea stand at 1.2 billion U S Dollars and are to increase up to 1.5 billion U S Dollars.
A memorandum of understanding between the Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka and Tea Research Association of India would be signed today in Assam, India on collaboration.

Schools reopen for third term tomorrow (04)
The Education Ministry has announced that schools will reopen for the third term tomorrow (4th).
Ministry sources added that Muslim schools will reopen only on September 6.

19 LTTE terrorists killed, 23 wounded at Palamoddai- Vavuniya
At least 19 LTTE terrorists were killed and 23 others reported wounded following intense fighting erupted between troops and LTTE, North of Palamodai general area, at the Vavuniya- Mullaittiuvu battlefront from 10a.m., till 1.30p.m., Tuesday (Sep 2).
Troops of the Task Force -2, continued steady advances into LTTE forward defence positions despite stiff resistance and have reportedly uncovered an i-com set left by LTTE, military sources said.
In addition to the LTTE fatalities, a soldier has laid his life and another wounded in the confrontations, sources further said.

Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics championship commence today
Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics championship will be commenced today (03) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium with the courtesy of Lanka school sports Association and Nestle Lanka Company.
The athletes who succeed in this event will be selected to South Asian Youth Athletic Games and Commonwealth Youth Sports Games.
Sport game will be held for three days with the participation over 2000 athletics in 212 schools.
