Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics championship commence today
Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics championship will be commenced today (03) at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium with the courtesy of Lanka school sports Association and Nestle Lanka Company.
The athletes who succeed in this event will be selected to South Asian Youth Athletic Games and Commonwealth Youth Sports Games.
Sport game will be held for three days with the participation over 2000 athletics in 212 schools.

Berty and Mahipala New Chief Ministers of North Central and Sabaragamuwa

The new Chief Ministers for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils will be sworn in today (04).Berty Premalal Dissanayaka will be appointed as the Chief Minister of the North Central Province for the third successive term while Mahipala Herath will be appointed as the Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa Province.

Sri Lanka’s second Money Museum to be opened in Anuradhapura
The second Money Museum of Central Bank of Sri Lanka will be declared open in the capital city of the North Central Province Anuradhapura, on 5th September 2008.
According to the Central Bank, the public including school children as well as numismatics will be able to gain a wealth of information of money used in Sri Lanka since the 3rd century in this museum.
Ancient currencies, coins and notes used in the island under different colonial periods until the establishment of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka are some of the exhibits on display.
The Museum will be opened for the public daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., free of charge.
The first Money Museum of the Central Bank was established at the Bank’s Head Office building in Fort, Colombo in 1982.

Lanka attends expo for first time this year showcasing tea, jewels in China
Twenty-five Government officials and 120 business representatives from the Russian Federation will attend the trade exhibition which displays Sri Lanka’s native products including black tea and jewels and seek trade opportunities.
The fourth Jilin Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo opened yesterday in Changchun, China to buyers and suppliers.
“I believe there will be more extensive cooperation between China and Sri Lanka at the fair,” said a commercial counselor of Sri Lankan Embassy in China. The Sri Lanka delegation attends the expo for the first time this year. 
The Expo continues to grow after its successful first session three years ago. The number of contracts signed increased from 132 in 2005 to 169 last year, with the aggregate value growing from 36.79 billion yuan to 70 billion yuan.
It is now ranked as a national A-level exposition and among China’s 10-most influential Government expos.
The number of exhibition booths has increased to 2,000 this year, with 708 for overseas exhibitors and 1,292 for domestic participants.
The show now underway has attracted more than 60 of the world’s top 500 companies, including Wal-Mart, Johnson Controls and General Motors from the United States, SK and Doosan from South Korea, Japan’s Toyota and Sumitomo Corp and Germany’s Siemens and ZF.
Other participants include 86 overseas trade associations and 71 purchasing agents.

Lecture on ‘16th century warfare’ held at MOD
A lecture on the ‘16th century warfare’ with special emphasis to the Sri Lanka context was held at the MOD premises, Wednesday (Sep 3).
Dr. K.D.G Wimalarathne , the former Director General of the Sri Lankan archives conducted the session, which was attended by the Tri-services’ personnel and the staff members of the Ministry of Defence.
