“We will soon establish ninth provincial council” - President
President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that before too long the ninth Provincial Council will be established in the North, just as the Eastern Provincial Council was set up following the liberation of the area from the grip of terrorism.Expressing his gratitude to the war heroes who are engaged in the noble mission of liberating the country from the clutches of terrorism, President said that the Provincial Councils election portrays the will and wish of the people in these two provinces with respect to the Government’s objectives.
He said that the people have strengthened the Government giving the ruling party a comforatable majority and thereby indicating a strong vote to go ahead with its mission, leaving behind petty political gains expected by certain parties.
“We should leave behind our political agendas for the betterment of our village, town and province,” he said.
Addressing the newly elected members of the two provincial councils, the President said “We are on the correct path. We should walk this path with responsibility. I seek your dedication to make our endeavors a success.”

Wanni offensive continues causing heavy damages to LTTE
Security forces personnel engaged in counter terrorist offensive operation have dominated more LTTE areas despite the heavy resistance given by the enemy. According to the finalized military report received from the battlefront, 25 LTTE terrorists were killed while another 17 suffered injuries in yesterday’s clashes reported in Wanni theatre. Fore more terrorists reportedly either killed or wounded. Four army soldiers have laid their lives for defending the motherland while another 13 suffered injuries due to the clashes ensued yesterday.
Troops of 56 Division operating in Vavuniya front have killed 5 LTTE terrorists in a confrontation took place in Vedamakilam area. Meanwhile, in Task Force 2, 7 LTTE terrorists were killed while 3 others suffered injuries in series of clashes reported in general area Palamoddai in the same front. One soldier also suffered injuries in these clashes. One I-Com radio set and two hand grenades were also uncovered in a subsequent search operation conducted in the same area. Two soldiers suffered injuries exploding anti-personnel mines in general area Mundumurippu while engaged in mine clearing operations.
Troops of Task Force 1 operating in Kilinochchi district had several confrontations in Vannerikkulam and Panaikandanadu areas, the report said. Troops have successfully repulsed an LTTE attempt to breach the defence line in general area Panaikandanadu killing 4 terrorists and injuries 9 others. 3 soldiers also suffered injuries in this incident. In two separate confrontations took place in general area Vannerikkulam, 4 more LTTE terrorists were killed while one army soldier has made utmost sacrifice and another wounded, the report said. One soldier was killed 3 more suffered injuries exploding terror booby traps while engaged in consolidating operations in general area Vannerikkulam, the report added.
Troops conducting mine-clearing operations in recently liberated areas, have unearthed 45 anti-personnel mines in general area Akkarayankulam.
In several clashes ensued between security forces and LTTE terrorists in general area Andankulam, troops of 59 Division operating in Welioya area have killed 5 terrorists and injured 5 others, 4 more terrorists reportedly either killed or wounded. One soldier has made his utmost sacrifice for defending the motherland while other 2 received injuries, the report added.
Troops have removed 73 anti-personnel mines and 2 Improvised Explosive Devices from Ulathuvely and Andankulam areas.

Yahaluwo goes worldwide
The Sinhalese movie Yahaluwo (Friends), of Veteran filmmaker Sumithra Peries’ had been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the 39th International Film Festival of India.
The film festival is scheduled to be held in Goa from November 22 to December 2.
The film starring Sujeewa Senasinghe ,Pooja Umashanker along with child actor Himasal Thathsara Liyanage will be screened at the competitive segment of the Goa film festival.
Yahaluwo is also to screening in Australia from October 8.

School text books shipped to Jaffna today
Text books to Jaffna schools will be shipped from Colombo today (05), sources from the Ministry of Education said in line with the Government’s vision of ensuring that all communities and regions in the country benefit equally from development drives and the particular need to bring back normalcy to the classrooms of areas that have suffered from the conflict.A ceremony has been organized at the Bandaranaike Jetty to celebrate this moment where the first shipment of the total number of books required (8, 42,326) will be sent to be distributed among schools that come under the 14 Divisional Education Offices of Jaffna, Ministry sources said.
Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Nirmala Kothalawala and several other ministry officials will participate at the occasion.
