Construct of Nugegoda flyover commence next month
Sri Lanka Ministry of Highways and Road Development said the construction work on the flyover in Nugegoda will commence next month.
The six-lane flyover will be 261 meters in length and 7.35 meters in width. Construction of two lanes of the bridge will commence at the beginning of the next month and planned to be concluded by January 2009. The project will cost 1.6 billion Rupees.
This is the fourth flyover built in Sri Lanka and three others have been built in Ragama, Dematagoda and Kelaniya.
The Sri Lankan government has decided to construct seven new flyovers this year aiming to ease the huge traffic congestion in Colombo and suburbs. Seven flyovers in Nugegoda (261m), Kohuwala (219m), Dehiwala (335m), Junction of Rajagiriya and Welikada, (555m), Panadura (288m) Kelaniya South (300m) and Kelaniya (North) will be constructed at a cost of Sterling Pounds 33 million. The project is funded by the UK Government.

Sri Lanka qualifies for the semi finals in the Rugby 7’s
(Colombo Lankapuvath September 07) Sri Lanka has qualified for the Semi finals at the Singer Rugby 7s held in kandy Niththawela grounds. The rugby series started on the 05th of September 2008.
Representing the B group, Sri Lanaka won all matches held yesterday and remains unbeaten.
India, China, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand are the countries taking part in the Singer Rugby 7s.
The matches will conclude today (07).

UNP MP’s to take oaths
The elected UNP MP’s for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces are due to take their oaths on September 10 before the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe.
The General Secretary of the UNP Tissa Attanayaka told Lankapuvath that the taking of oaths will take place at Sirikotha, party Headquarters at 9.00am.
He further said that opposition leaders of the two provinces will be declared officially at the same day.

A blessing ceremony for war heroes
A blessing ceremony was held at the Dalada Maligawa in Kandy today (07).
Objective of the ceremony is to bless the Armed Forces, Civil Security Forces and police who are engaged in Wanni mission.
The Ceremony was initiated by Diyawadane Nilame Predeep Nilanga Dale and was held with the participation of senior officials of Armed Forces and many devotees.

Air Force jets strike at LTTE recruit training center- Mullaittivu
Air Force fighter jets launched precision air strikes at an identified LTTE recruit training center located 3km West of Mankulama in Mullaittivu, Sunday(Sep 7) at 10.20a.m.
According to Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, the air sorties were carried out successfully. LTTE is yet to release details of losses and will remain tight lip as usual defence observes stated.
