Despite of the unfavourable weather condition, a large number of Sri Lankans gathered in front of the Swiss Parliament on Saturday (Sep 6), afternoon to protest against the LTTE atrocities committed in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Vast majority of the participants had come from Italy and some Sri Lankans had flown from London to take part in this demonstration. It was remarkable that the female participation was high.
Buddhist monks living in Italy and in Switzerland too were present at the rally and they addressed the crowd with the help of a megaphone. A great enthusiasm could also be seen amongst the Tamils in Switzerland as the crowd was addressed in both Tamil and in English languages.
The main slogans were aimed at denouncing the murderous acts of the LTTE, child solders and fund raising. The crowd uttered with the slogans emphasizing that the LTTE must be banned in Switzerland and the Swiss government should stop LTTE fund raising, child conscription, killing and abduction of the members of their own community and so on.
As a whole, it was a peaceful demonstration and the crowd got dispersed at about 5:00 pm after performing another successful demonstration in one of the leading locations in Europe where the pro LTTE individuals enjoy a greater degree of immunity from the authorities.
