Norway always welcome to assist Wanni civilians through Government channels - President
President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a discussion with the Norwegian Minister of Environment and International Development, Erik Solheim, reiterated that the Government of Sri Lanka welcomes Norwegian assistance to bring relief to the Northern masses.The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 63rd UN General Assembly sessions in New York yesterday (Monday 22). Mr. Solheim was accompanied by Jon Hansen Bauer, Special Envoy associated with the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission.
Discussions on current developments in Sri Lanka included President’s approach towards a sustainable peace and the need to eliminate terrorism. It was shown that the Government’s current policy mirrored the developments taking place in the East, with the defeat of LTTE terrorism there.
The President brought to notice of the foreign delegates that despite the requests made to the LTTE, the terrorists continue to use civilians as a human shield to prevent Security Forces advancing into enemy-held territory.
The Sri Lankan delegation at the bi-lateral discussion comprised Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and the Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Palitha Kohona.

Massive road development projects for East and North-Central provinces
Massive Road Development Projects have commenced for the Eastern and North-Central Provinces in keeping with “Mahinda Chinthanaya” concept. The project will extend to Trincomalee and Batticaloa in the Eastern Province and in Kanthale the North-Central Province by a network of roadways.
The French Government and the Asian Development Bank will fund Rs. 11,509 million for the entire development of infrastructure and roads.
Under the Trincomalee Co-ordinated Infrastructure Facilities Expansion Programme, the Trincomalee – Batticoloa A-15 road would be widened by 8.2 meters, the construction of five bridges at Kayankareni, Werugal, Ralkulee, Gangai and Appar would be done at a cost of Rs.7,271 million .
Road B-10 which extends from Allai to Kanthale would be widened by 6.2 meters and at accost of Rs. 1,363 million. The road which connects Habarana and Kanthale would be widened and reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 2,407 million. Mawadichanai – Ganeahpuram road would be widened at a cost of Rs.468 million.

Trafficking of under aged girls of the East for foreign employment
The number of under aged girls sent abroad for employment shows an upward trend especially in the East.
Speaking to Lankapuvath the Chairman of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFB) Mr Kinsley Ranawake mentioned that three complaints regarding the issue have been made during the past few weeks. The racket was carried out by some employment agencies.
The chairman emphasized that Young girls being employed abroad cause harm to the image of the country
The SLFB is holding investigations regarding the issue mentioned the chairman.
