Posted by admin 23 September, 2008 (0) Comment
Minister of Petroleum & Petroleum Resources Development, A.H.M. Fowzie The sudden fall in world oil prices does not necessarily mean that it is possible to reduce the price of fuel in the local market since stocks now available with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation are imported at the previous higher rate, Minister of Petroleum & Petroleum Resources Development, A.H.M. Fowzie said today (23).
Responding to questions raised in Parliament today (23), Minister Fowzie said that although the price of a diesel litre in January this year was Rs. 88/=, the Government sold it at Rs. 80/=. This has led to a loss of Rs. 1.5 billion and pointed out that the CPC is at present recording a loss of Rs. 17 billion.

He also said that the fuel price hike done in the past was not done in accordance with rising fuel price in the world and the Government sold fuel always in accordance with the buying rate.
