President urged not to dissolve WPC

Ruling party members of the Western Provincial Council at a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa today requested not to dissolve the WPC prematurely.

Rice to be imported if artificial shortage is created -Minister

Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardane said today that he would take measures to import 30,000 tons of rice of ‘Ponni Samba’ variety if traders and mill owners tried to increase rice prices in the market by creating an artificial shortage. The Minister said that he had received information about such an attempt by some errant traders.
