Don’t impose tax on news print imports-NFF

The National Freedom Front (NFF) requested the government in Parliament yesterday to withdraw the budget proposal to impose a tax on imports of news prints as otherwise it would have an adverse effect on the newspaper industry. NFF MP Weerakumara Dissanayake said news prints are not locally.

Underworld group behind attacks - Police

A Maligawatte based underworld group is responsible for the violent incidents that took place in Maradana and Fort areas after Friday prayers yesterday, police said. After holding a protest, a group of people caused damages to shops and property in these areas. Police said this group had dropped chits at shops the previous day asking shop owners to close their shops after prayers and started attacking the ones which remained opened by the time the prayers were over.
