Navy Commander, MP Basil Rajapaksa inspects construction work at Silavatturai- Mannar

Minister of Parliament Basil Rajapaksa, Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and few other government delegates made an inspection visit to the liberated Silavatturrai area in Mannar, today (Nov 16).

The delegates had visited construction sites at Murunkan, Mullikulama and Silavatturrai, Naval sources said. The Navy has undertaken main construction work at Silavatturrai including the 16km Murunkan - Silavatturrai and the 26km Silavatturrai - Mullikulama roads. These construction work and rehabilitation projects were initiated under the Government’s policy to speedup resettlement and rehabilitation in the recently liberated areas.

Also, the delegates have inspected the newly constructed 42m long, 8m wide Modaragamaru Bridge, along the Silavatturrai- Mullikulama main road.

According to Navy media sources, this rehabilitation and construction works of the road network bears testimony to yet another community services rendered by the Sri Lanka Navy which is always concerned about the wellbeing of the innocent civilians rescued from the ruthless clutches of the LTTE.

COI to commence taking evidence

The Special Presidential Commission Investigating Serious Violations of Human Rights is to resume recording evidence from overseas witnesses shortly via video conferencing with the assistance provided by the Presidential Secretariat, Chairman of the Commission retired Supreme Court Judge Nissanka Udalagama said today.
