Philanthropist donates Emergency water plant to war heroes
Mr. Anura Lesli Perera, philanthropist and Executive Director of the ‘Rotor Investments Overseas Ltd’, Spain, Monday (Nov 17) donated an Emergency Water purifying plant to the Army at a charm event held in Colombo.
The water plant is worth over 7 million SLR and with a capacity to purify 70,000Ltrs per day. This will indeed facilitate the need for purified water of the valiant troops battling against LTTE at the Wanni fronts.
The donation was handed over by Mr. Laxman Perera, brother to Mr. Anura Perera and received by the Army Chief Lt. General Sarath Fonseka at the Army Headquarters. Several other senior military brasses were also present at the occasion.

All vehicles in the western province should obtain the VET certificate
To limit the vehicles that emit large amount of fumes which are harmful to humans as well as the environment, a Vehicle Emission Testing Certificate programme commenced this year.
In order to revenue the license, all registered vehicles in the western province will have to obtain the VET certificate.
The testing will be conducted by Laughfs Eco Pvt Ltd and CleanCo Pvt Ltd. Laughfs where they would have permanent centers, five in Colombo district, three in Gampaha district and one in the Kalutara district. They will also have four mobile centers in Colombo, one Gampaha and five in the Kalutara.
The testing will also be charged and the chages will be different for each type of vehicle. For Motor cycle Rs. 247.50, Motor tricycle Rs. 302.50, Agricultural vehicle Rs. 302.50, motor car Rs. 660.00, diesel/petrol vehicle or van Rs. 715.00, motor lorry Rs. 935.00, bus Rs. 605 and prime mover Rs. 990.00
Several agencies play an important part in its implementation, in the VET program which was launched in July this year
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources developed the emission standards while the Department of Motor Traffic is the designated implementing agency of the program

BOI promotes investment in the South
Large number of investments are expected to expected to flow into Hambantota District as the region has been earmarked for development.
Currently there are 31 projects that operate in the area with a total value of approximately Rs. 1,600 million.
These projects have generated 11,500 direct employment opportunities. The BOI plans to set up a large industrial zone and to facilitate the setting up of the Hambantota Oil Refinery.
The idea to set up an office in Hambantota was the brainchild of Dr Sarath Amunugama, Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion. Under the Mahinda Chinthana development program of the Government, areas that need to be economically developed will be assisted by infrastructure development and incentives to encourage investors.
Hambantota District has always had considerable potential due to its strategic location at the southern tip of the island, making it a gateway to areas such as the Gulf, the Indian Subcontinent, the Far East and Australia

Yuvaraj leads India to their second victory against England
India won the 2nd ODI against England in the match played at Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground, Indore, yesterday (17).
India wining the toss elected to bat and gave the England team a target of 292 for the fall of 9 wickets. The opening batsman of India G Gambhir scored 70 runs while Yuvaraj Singh displayed his talents once more by playing another 118 runs. This marks his second century in the 07 match series against England.
S C J Broad of the England took 04 wickets in his 10 overs while S J Harmison, P D Collingwood and K P Perterson took one wicket each.
England in their innings could only score 238 runs for the loss of all wickets at the end of the 47th over. O H Shah scored 58 runs which was the highest for the England team.
Yuvaraj Singh took 4 wickets in his 10 overs by only giving away only 28 runs. He was also won the man of the match award.
