‘Tallest Tower’ in Sri Lanka to come up in Battaramulla

ImageConstruction on what will be the tallest twin tower in Sri Lanka will commence with a ‘ground-breaking’ ceremony next week.

Suchirindia, a Hyderabad based business group roots in real estate, has ventured into construction of twin towers of 40 floors and 70 floors marvel at Colombo, Sri Lanka, collaboration with NEB Rapid Infrastructure and the Government of Sri Lanka is being developed at a cost of US$ 250 million.

The residential tower is located close to the Parliament complex and proposed main terminals of metro railway.

The total built-up area for the commercial tower including convention centre and the residential tower would be two and half million sq.ft.

The company is executing the project under the name ‘SUCHIR NEB PROJECTS Pvt Ltd.’ a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed for this purpose along with our partners.

Battle begins in Kilinochchi outskirts; TF1 captures 3 LTTE bunkers

Task Force 1 (TF 1) troops today (Nov 21) reached the northern boundaries of the Kilinochchi built up and started pounding the LTTE strongholds in the Adampan area.

According to the battlefield sources, troops of 8 Sinha Regiment (8 SR) have captured 3 LTTE bunkers and a battle trench located 9 Km West of Kilinochchi town around 9.45 AM. During the subsequent search, troops found two bodies of slain LTTE cadres and five T-56 riffles. Troops are continuing their march towards Kilinochchi, the sources added.

Meanwhile, snipers deployed in the North of Kilinochchi have confirmed shooting down of three LTTE cadres during the morning hours.

The sources further reveal that LTTE terrorist have put up another earth bund encircling the Kilincochchi built up to slow down the military advance.

Sri Lanka wins first ODI against Zimbabwe

Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe by six wickets in the first One Day International match of the series played at Harare Sports Club yesterday (20).

Sri Lanka elected to field after winning the toss and was able to limit the Zimbabwe score to a 127 in just 31 overs.

T T Thaibu of Zimbabwe played 36 runs while C J Chibhabha played 25.  M Muralitharan took 04 wickets in 4 overs, B A W Mendis took t03 wickets in six overs.

Sri Lanka was able to score 130 runs at the end of 33 overs and for the loss of only 04 wickets. K Sangakkara scored 46 not out and M L Udawatte scored 38. R W Price of Zimbabwe took 02 wickets in 07 overs.

M Muralitharan became the man of the match.

Norochcholai power plant will generate electricity by 2010

Sri Lankan government said that they will commence generating electricity from the Norochcholai power plant in Kalpitiya peninsula off the Northwestern coast in the country by the year 2010.

Speaking at the parliament last evening Power and Energy Minister W.D.J. Senaviratne said that 30 percent of the construction work in the project was almost completed.

This project of 300 MW coal fired thermal power plant with infrastructure for a 900 MW power plant had started in 2006 and costs approximately US Dollars 455 million. The funds are provided by the Exim Bank of China.

The successful completion of this project will enhance the capacity of the national grid of the country with an expected output of 1658 GWh of annual energy at distribution level for delivery to consumers.
