Khavan Perera and two others remanded

Former Golden Key Credit Card CEO/Director Khavan Perera and two other were remanded today by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate till January 16 pending an investigation into a fraud at the company, court officials said.

Request for Praba, an endorsement for ongoing ops – Govt.

The Indian request to hand over LTTE supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran if he was captured alive after conquering the last stronghold of the terrorist outfit Mullaithivu by Sri Lankan armed forces was an endorsement of the ongoing humanitarian operations in the North by India, the Sri Lankan government said today.

Gas prices to be reduced- Minister

ImageDue to declining global fuel prices the Government hopes to reduce gas prices further by March giving more benefits to the people, Minister of Trade, Marketing Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Bandula Gunawardena said yesterday (05).
The Minister told the media that government intervention prevented the people from being victimized by profit making private companies and that the government was concerned about the welfare of the people and did not represent the interests of private companies.

He pointed out that on January 1st the price of a 12.5 kg cylinder of Shell gas was reduced by Rs.166 rupees and a 12.5 kg cylinder of Laugfs gas by Rs.276 owing to the drop in world prices.

Govt condemns attack on Sirasa Media Complex

Mr.Anusha Palpita, Director of Government Information The Government vehemently condemns the attack on the Sirasa media complex in Depanama, Pannipitiya, perpetrated in the early hours of January 6, Anusha Palpita, Director of Government Information said in a statement released a short while ago.

President Rajapaksa immediately ordered a full investigation into the incident and called on the Inspector General of Police to apprehend the culprits and bring them to court.

Meanwhile, Minister of Mass Media and Information, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, also condemned the attack and called the IGP to initiate a probe into the incident.

The Minister further said that it appears that the incident was deliberately designed to bring the Government into disrepute at a time when the heroic troops of the security forces are successfully engaged in ridding the country of the terrorist menace.

G.C.E.O/L results on time

Minister of Education Susil PremajayanthaResults of the G.C.E.O/L are expected to release at the scheduled time without any delay, Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha stated at the parliament today (06).

This statement was made by the minister as a reply to the opposition party. Though Mathematics paper is planned to be held again and the paper marking is already programmed to be finished by 31st of January.
