17 LTTE terrorists killed, 5 wounded in yesterday’s confrontations

17 LTTE terrorists were killed, 5 others reported wounded during intermittent fighting ensued between troops and LTTE at the tensed Wanni battlefront in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu districts, Saturday (Sep6).

According to finalized reports received, 2 soldiers have laid their lives and 13 others injured in the day’s confrontations. In general area Navathkulama and Marathamadu military said that 5 terrorists were killed in SLA attacks, with no casualties reported from own troops.

Meanwhile, troops of the Task Force -1 operating at Nachchikudha and Vannerikulama areas have confronted with LTTE mounting heavy attacks at identified LTTE strong points in the area, security sources said. 6 soldiers received injuries while another was reported wounded stepping into an LTTE laid booby trap at Paraikandamadu general area.

Separately, troops of the Task Force -2 operating in Palamoddai and Navvi general areas have reported killing at least 6 terrorists and injuring 2 others. 2 soldiers also laid their lives and similar numbers wounded in the confrontations, according to reports. 2 more LTTE terrorists were also killed during confrontations with troops at Navvi.

At the Eastern Wanni battlefront, troops of the 59 Division continued offensive moves into LTTE positions North of Kiriibbanwewa Saturday, and have reportedly killed 6 terrorists and injuring 3 others, according to finalized reports received. A soldier sustained injuries due to an AP mine explosion in addition to 3 others who were wounded during confrontations with LTTE in the same area.
