Hundreds of Sri Lankans and peace loving people are expected to gather at Trocadero, under the shade of the most popular tourist attraction of the world, the Eiffel Tower tomorrow to protest, the Tigers. The demonstration, organised jointly by all the Sri Lankan associations and societies in France is scheduled to begin at 3.00 p.m. tomorrow(Nov 23).
The organisers have appealed to ‘all patriotic Sri Lankans in France to participate at the demonstration jointly organised by the United Sri Lankans (USL) to Protest Against:
*
continuous recruitment of children as armed combatants by the LTTE
*
keeping the Tamil population as hostages to use them as a human shield
*
extortion, intimidation and harassment of innocent Tamil civilians living in France by the cadres of LTTE and members of its various front organizations and mafia gangs and
*
ruthless and most barbaric killings of innocent civilians including women and children by the LTTE terrorists.
“We, the peace-loving and law-abiding French citizens of Sri Lankan origin, wish to bring to make the French people aware of the true nature of the most ruthless and barbaric terrorist movement called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) – better known as Tamil Tigers,” a spokesman said.
The organisers urged the French to condemn:
The killings of thousands of Tamil and Sinhala civilians, including women and children by the Tamil Tigers
The brutal assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi of India, President R. Premadasa, Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and scores of ministers, Tamil and Sinhala politicians, academics and social workers by the LTTE
Unabashed recruitment of Tamil children as armed combatants by the Tamil Tigers Intimidation, harassment and extortion of money from innocent Tamil civilians living in France by the Tamil Tigers Collection of monthly payments under duress from all the shops, groceries and other commercial establishments owned or managed by Sri Lankan origin people by the Tamil Tigers and Keeping the Tamil population in Kilinochchi in North Sri Lanka as hostages to use as a human shield against the rapidly advancing government forces.
“We, the democratic and peace-loving Sri Lankans, call upon the French Government and the European Union to proscribe all the front organizations of the LTTE,” Spokesman said. “We urge you to investigate into the nefarious activities of LTTE terrorists and take legal action against them, enabling the law abiding French citizens of Sri Lankan origin – both Tamil and Sinhala – to live and enjoy the democratic individual freedoms in this liberal nation.”
