Americans of the United States will celebrate the 223rd anniversary of independence today (July 4).
The US and Sri Lanka have always maintained close and friendly ties for more than a century, i.e. ever since a commercial agency was set up in 1850 leading to the opening of a Consulate in Colombo in 1875. This was later upgraded to full Embassy status in 1948 following Sri Lanka’s Declaration of Independence from Britain.
