Commander of the Army, General Sarath Fonseka, made his first visit to the Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters yesterday (02) in the aftermath of the successful conclusion of the Eelam War that ravaged the country for just over three decades.Gen.Fonseka was accorded a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honor in accordance with military traditions. Both honors were bestowed to the visiting military chief by 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (8 SLSR) troops. General Sarath Fonseka, following an inspection of the parade received the salute from a special dais, erected for the occasion.
General Fonseka afterwards addressing officers and other ranks, assembled at the venue valued their contribution, dedication and commitment during the peak of LTTE terrorism and its culmination.
Focussing on the importance of all-time preparedness, conduct of humanitarian services, de-mining and continued training for soldiers, General Fonseka recalled that better training sessions would now remain on offer in the future.That will enormously help soldiers receive their career promotions in the future,he asserted.
During his meeting with 51,52,55 Division General Officers Commanding, field officers and Task Force Commanders, General Sarath Fonseka was given a comprehensive update on the current security matters in the peninsula. He also evaluated future scenarios and stressed the need to continue surveillance at all times. He expressed many practical views to boost the moral of troops prior to his departure to Colombo the same day. (MP)
