CEB has invented several equipments required by the Power Sector.

With the objective providing increased and efficient service to the consumers, the Ceylon  Electricity Boar’s Consumer Services Centre at Lindula has invented several equipment that would help workers engaged in fixing the power lines.  Patent Rights have also been received for these items designed and invented by the Electrical Superintendant of the Lindula Consumer Services Centre, Mr. Nimal Samarakoon. The items invented include iron rod footwear and a safety belt locker used to climb trees, poles and concrete poles.  A wrench manufactured with steel rods and pipes which can be used to turn the wooden poles or concrete poles by a single person

In addition to this Mr. Samarakoon has also designed mechanisms, using colour codes, numbers , and symbols to identify inventory movements, stationary items in an office, easy access to stationary items required within a few seconds and a mechanism to conduct an inventory survey from 20 to 30 minutes period.

The CEB is planning to use these methods in all their 54 Regional Offices and later on to encourage other  government offices and institutions to adopt these methods.

Further, the Lindula Consumer Services Centre also functions as a mini-museum of Sri Lanka’s Electricity Supply.  It has meters, transformers, meter cubicles used from the time of commencing electricity supply in Sri Lanka in 1912.  Many of these items, such as electricity meters, electricity poles, transformers etc have been imported from U.K.

The electricity supply in Sri Lanka, has commenced with power supply to areas in Colombo in 1912 and in the same Nuwara Eliya has also got power supply due to the area being the residential place of many Britons at that time.(niz).
