He pointed out that Phase Two was scheduled to be completed by year 2012.
“There is speculation today that the electricity charges are very high. However, you are all aware that 65 per cent of the electricity generated is done with the use of diesel oil. Furthermore, furnace oil is also used and this increases production costs, It must be noted that the CEB incurs a loss of Rs. 1.50 for each unit generated. However, electricity is provided at Rs. 13 a unit. The generation of hydro power amounts to around 35 per cent. But this is a lesser percentage” he noted.
“We anticipate to reduce the cost of electricity with the use of coal power plants. This is because a unit generated with the use of coal, will only cost 7 to 8 rupees,” the minister added.(SST)
