Sri Lanka Ministry of Highways and Road Development said the construction work on the flyover in Nugegoda will commence next month.

The six-lane flyover will be 261 meters in length and 7.35 meters in width. Construction of two lanes of the bridge will commence at the beginning of the next month and planned to be concluded by January 2009. The project will cost 1.6 billion Rupees.

This is the fourth flyover built in Sri Lanka and three others have been built in Ragama, Dematagoda and Kelaniya.

The Sri Lankan government has decided to construct seven new flyovers this year aiming to ease the huge traffic congestion in Colombo and suburbs. Seven flyovers in Nugegoda (261m), Kohuwala (219m), Dehiwala (335m), Junction of Rajagiriya and Welikada, (555m), Panadura (288m) Kelaniya South (300m) and Kelaniya (North) will be constructed at a cost of Sterling Pounds 33 million. The project is funded by the UK Government.
