Sri Lanka Customs will go high-tec effective from February 01 with the implementation of electronic submission of Cusdec and Manifest, said th Sri Lanka Posrts Authority Chairman Dr.Priyath B.Wickrama.
With the ongoing development programmes in the Colombo as well as Hambantota ports during the past years, there had been a significant growth in the shipping industry. Therefore streamlining of the present system will certainly boost the port Efficiency, the SLPA Chairman said.
The present system requires much storage space as it produces large number of paper work and document handling thereby it leads to unnecessary security problems for archival records.
Dr.Wickrama said that with the implementation of electronic submission, problems that arose in manual handling will be reduced while improving the documentation handling efficiency.
Now that Sri Lanka is focusing its attention to achieve hub status in the region,implementation of an efficient high tech clearing system is most appropriate he emphasised. It was also revealed that seminars will be held to educate exporters and importers on the procedures of implementation of the new electronic submission of Cusdec and Manifest.
