The first two solar power plants in Sri Lanka with a total capacity of 1100 Kilowatts will be set up in the Hambantota district with assistance from Japan and South Korea worth 13.5 million dollars.
According to the Sustainable Energy Authority the capacity of the proposed two plants are 600 and 500 kilowatts. Assistance will come from Japan and South Korea. Japan will provide nine million dollars while South Korea will give 4.5 million dollars for the two plants which will come up on an extent spanning 50 acres.An official statement said the required infrastructure for both plants will be provided by Sri Lanka. The two solar plants would add more
than one million kilowatt hours to the national grid. This will help to reduce Electricity Board’s expenses by 22.5 million rupees
annually.

Power generation through the renewable energy sources is environmental friendly and will minimise harmful emissions to the environment.
