The Government is scheduled to set up a canned fish factory in Akmeemana,Galle, said Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Felix Perera .This would be a joint venture with a New Zealand Company and the agreement in this regard has already been signed.
Approval of the Board of Investment has been granted to establish this factory.
The minister said all possible steps were being taken to expand the fishing industry to boost production.
He was confident of a comprehensive expansion scheme on fishing as there were no restrictions placed on the fishing industry after terrorism was defeated.
