Gem mines to be mapped after data collection

gem mining 2010 03 05 Gem mines to be mapped after data collection Gem and Jewellery Research and Training Institute had taken steps to launch a programme to collect data on gem mines in Sri Lanka.
According to the Institute sources, all gem mines in the country will be mapped after the completion of the project. This would facilitate those who are engaged in the industry to locate the gem mines. Many environmental issues have been created as scientific methods are not being used in mining.

The Gem and Jewellery Research and Training Centre said that this project would be instrumental in controlling the situation. The gem mines in Buttala and Wellawaya divisional secretariat areas will be mapped under the 1st phase of the project.
