The Garcinia fruit is a rich source of hydroxycitric acid, and research prove that hydroxycitric acid helps to reduce weight by controlling fat production and suppressing appetite.
Agriculture Ministry Entrepreneur Development Director D B T Wijeratne said that hydroxycitric acid lowers the cholesterol production and increases glycogen production in the liver. If glycogen stores are full, additional carbohydrates are transformed to fat. Hydroxycitric acid blocks up this process and helps to prevent added fat getting stored on the body.
He strictly advises that some people use this acid as a chemical supplement to get immediate results and that now researchers advice people not to do so as it will create health problems. Beside that the ancestors used Goraka in making sea food, as it prevented any Bacteria infection through Fish or as an antihistamine.
