The purchase of paddy in the Polonnaruwa District is being successfully undertaken. The paddy is being purchased jointly by the Paddy Marketing Board and Cooperatives, the Paddy Marketing Board revealed.According to the Paddy Marketing Board sources, 80 purchasing centres have been set up in the Mahaveli B area. A kilo of Samba is being purchased at 30 rupees while a kilo of Nadu at 28 rupees. Marketing Representatives have been appointed for farmers Associations and the purchasing centres.
More than 150,000 acres in Polonnaruwa District have been cultivated with paddy and the income of the farmers has also been increased,sources added.
