Persons who act against the country in the garb of media personnel should be presented to a people’s tribunal as unfortunately there is no legal provision locally or internationally to take action against these anti-national elements whatever the pronouncements they make against the country and the people. Similar to what they did during the period of humanitarian operations, even at present these persons are carrying out a concerted effort to defame the country to appease their foreign paymasters and the NGOs who sustain them.
This was stated by the Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella during the question and answer session of the Cabinet Decision announcement Media Conference held at the Information Department yesterday.
Responding to a question asked as to why action cannot be taken against the NGOs if they are providing funds to media personnel, as being claimed by the Minister, the Minister explaining said, as registered organizations the NGOs are required to submit their audited accounts annually, but they do not outline about the funds they provide the media personnel or institutions and list them as “Social Welfare Expenses”. That is the reason why action cannot be taken against the NGOs for their anti-social and treacherous activities.
The Minister also pointed out that when an internationally important event is to take place, the so-called media personnel in the country and other treacherous elements stage demonstrations to disparage the country in order to provide fodder for the anti-Sri Lankan elements overseas. He said that the demonstrations staged by the anti-national group calling themselves as “media personnel” was held as a prelude to the United Nations Human Rights Commission Sessions.
The Minister reminded that these treacherous elements even denied the death of Prabhakaran while watching the photograph of his dead body shown in TV channels . He said that they wrote reports saying that Prabhakaran cannot be killed in that way, and Prabhakaran had been taken to some country a few days ago
