With the dawn of peace in the North and East, the Government openly invites investors to explore the business opportunities available in this part of the country while contributing effectively to the national economy.At present the Government has implemented mega infrastructure development projects enabling more facilities for investors interested in establishing their ventures in the North and East.
The invitation to investors was extended by the Governor of the Northern Province Major General G. A. Chandrasiri and the Minister of National Integration, V. Muralitharan participating as the chief guests at a seminar held at the BMICH yesterday (30).
The Governor, Maj. Gen. Chandrasiri delivered a special speech on the title – ‘Development in the North’ and Minister Muralitharan elaborated on the current developments in the Eastern region under the theme – ‘Present Situation in the East’ at the seminar.
Governor Maj.Gen. Chandrasiri noted that the Government has implemented 2823 projects allocating Rs. 4538 million under the ‘Northern Spring’ (Vadakkin Vasantham) development drive.
The railway line to Kankesanthurai is reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 12800 million. The development of Roads, Water supply & Electricity, Irrigation, Education, Fisheries and Health and all other infrastructure facilities in the Northern Province is open to new investments Governor Chandrasiri added.
Minister Muralitharan pointed out that the private sector investors can play a vital role in the Eastern region joining with string of fresh investors who have expressed willingness to commence their business enterprise in the region.
The business community was enlightened on the investment possibilities available in the these parts of the country as further explained by the former Director Economic affairs – Government Peace Secretariat, Rohantha Athukorala and by the Deputy Governor of Central Bank, Mr. Nandalal Weerasinghe.
The seminar was organized by the International Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka and was attended by over 200 entrepreneurs.
