Minister of Finance and State Revenue Ranjith Siyambalapitiya told a news briefing yesterday that the Opposition will have to remain in the opposition even after the future elections as they are politically bankrupt. He was responding to a statement made by UNP Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake on the reduction of interest rates by banks on loans for public servants.Karunanayake said the Finance Minister wants to reduce the interest rate between 8 and 12 percent. They took four and half years to take this decision. This he added will again be increased to 25 percent after the poll, Karunanayake noted in his statement at a news briefing the earlier day.
Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya observed that the statement made by Karunanayake was senseless and ludicrous. “That showed the Opposition accepted the Government will be returned to power after the election. The Government is aware of it and there is no issue about it. They view this as a clear indication of the drawbacks in the Opposition”, he said.
