 President respects peoples mandate  Media Minister Media Minister, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene today observed that President Mahinda Rajapaksa was a leader who would not act contrary to the mandate of the people, and ,therefore none could accuse the President of having violated the mandate given by the people.
Speaking to the media in Colombo today,Minister Abeywardene said the President’s stand on peoples mandate was clearly manifested in the President’s interview to the Hindu newspaper.

The minister said the northern people would be given all facilities and de-mining  work would be completed shortly.

He said the Southern Provincial election will  be after the Uva followed by a presidential election .

The minister added that the government was committed to build a just society and towards achieving that goal criminal gangs would be disarmed and the drug menace would be eradicated.

He welcomed political criticism but not personal  criticism which was not fair by an individual.

He pointed out that in a democracy anyone was free to join any party or government and even Prabhakaran was offered that privilege at one time.

The minister noted that politicians were free to engage themselves in election work in the north.
