President Mahinda Rajapaksa today urged all political parties to unite as one team of patriots as it was not the time to concentrate on differences but on equalities.
The President made these observations addressing the inaugural session of the Presidential Committee on Development and Reconciliation at the President’s Office.
The Head of State asserted that the present was a period to expedite the humanitarian mission of people after a cruel terrorist war and added that reconciliation would be impossible without development.’We must forge unity, understanding and affection for the future’, he noted.
Continuing the President pointed out that it was Sri Lankan troops which liberated the highest number people held hostage by a terrorist group.
He pointed out that there were 300,000 persons in camps in the North and it was a priority in the discussions of the forum with regard to resettlement.
