The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation has launched a programme to recruit soldiers with disabilities as announcers and technical staff. The selected persons will be deployed in service after special training in the relevant fields. The programme is being implemented under the patronage of the head of the Dharmayathanaya Colombo Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thera. The assistance of the “Lakviru Sevena Disabled Soldiers’ Vocational Training Centre is being provided for this programme.
Recruitment of a group of disabled army personnel to undergo training under the 1st phase has already commenced. Disabled soldiers in the signal regiment of the army have been chosen for jobs in the technical division. Disabled personnel in the Navy and the Air force are also to be recruited for similar positions later on.(niz).
