Sri Lanka to get 3 D Echo Cardiology Machine for the first time

Colombo National hospital is to receive two 3D echo cardiology machines and it is the first of its kind to be installed in the country’s health sector. Cardiac ailment is one of the major factor that contribute to deaths caused by non communicable diseases in the country.  Colombo National Hospital is the major health sector institution which provides the state of the Art patient care services.The installment of this latest facility will improve the quality, efficiency and standards of patient care service delivered by the Cardiology Department of Colombo National Hospital.

The Cabinet of Ministers on the recommendation of Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena,  granted approval to proceed with the project for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 02 numbers of Cardiac Catheterization Systems and 02 numbers of Echo Cardiograph Machines to the Cardiology Department of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.

According to Colombo National hospital sources the Cardiac Catheterization Systems that is already there in the hospital has expired its duration and the patient care services done by the unit has to be updated. Generally   high tech bio medical equipment with computer technology has a life time of three to five years and after that it needs updating or replacement. Sources in the Bio medical sector revealed that nowadays replacement of the existing technology is the best option as far as the patient care sector is concerned.
