The Government has taken up the task of creating an efficient public service and the highest tribute government servants could pay to the war heroes for their sacrifice is to render their duty effectively, Minister of Public Administration Sarath Amunugama said at the launching of an office bus service from the Ministry of Transport and the Pensions Department in Maligawatte yesterday (01)
The Minister pointed out that the Department of Pensions previously described as a greatly inefficient institution has now been converted into an efficient body utilizing modern technology.
In addition, Minister of Transport Dallas Alahapperuma said this staff bus service was another service rendered by the government to public servants. He said the SLTB has incurred a loss exceeding 200 million rupees last month alone by operating buses on unprofitable routes. The school bus service also runs at an annual loss of around 1.4 billion rupees.
The minister emphasized that even while facing these difficulties the government was committed to strengthen the public service.(SST)
