Troops capture 1043kms in Mannar and Vavniya
During the last six months 511 civilians have arrived in the Government controlled areas escaping the terrorists, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.
Mr. Nanayakkara said that the security forces have handed over the bodies of 228 LTTE carders to the ICRC since January this month.
Brigadier Nanayakkara addressing the weekly defence briefing yesterday (02) said that the 57 and 58 brigades engaged in counter-terrorism missions have liberated 1043 square kilometers of terrorist held areas in Mannar and Vavniya.
“This also includes 14kms of the coastal belt previously held by the terrorists,” he added.
The A-32 road leading to Punnarine from Thalladi via Vedithalathiv, roads from North of Puliyankulam-Adampan and North of Uyilankulam- Andamkulam have now been effectively blocked and no terrorist movement can take place, he revealed.
