The main Opposition UNP admitted in Parliament that 95 percent of the war had now been complete.
They paid tribute to the security forces and police for successfully combating terrorism.
UNP parliamentarian Lakshman Seneviratne starting the emergency debate on behalf of the Opposition, said the security forces had fulfilled their duties well.
Seneviratne said there had been heavy fighting in Mullaitivu during the past few days and that they were sure that the forces are taking on the enemy with courage.
