Five thousand Sri Lankan trained nurses will be sent to Middle-Eastern countries to serve in the hospital sector, Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition, Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
The decision was made by the Government in response to requests made by several Middle-Eastern countries, including UAE, Oman and Libya.
According to Ministry sources this will provide employment opportunities for Sri Lankan nurses who have training and experience in the respective fields.
The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry is already providing special training to 126 nurses to send them abroad by the end of this year. Interviews will be held by the end of this month for nurses wishing to take foreign employment, Ministry sources said.
Meanwhile the United States (California), Canada, and Australia have also made similar requests. Accordingly steps are being taken to send trained nurses to these countries.
The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has requested the receiving countries to follow several important conditions in employing Sri Lankan nurses in their hospitals and other institutions to ensure their safety, well-being and economic stability.
The Ministry has strictly adhered to the policy of entering into agreements with respective countries seeking the services of Sri Lankan nurses which provides a high salary, quality accommodation, safety and insurance, Ministry sources added.

K N Choksy calls for a federal solution for the countries conflict
K. N. Choksy, reputed lawyer, former Minister of Constitutional Affairs and Finance and UNP appointed MP called for a Federal solution to Sri Lanka’s conflict yesterday (05) in Parliament.
He said a federation of states was not Eelam, which had been rejected by the majority of the people.
The United States of America, Canada, Switzerland and Australia are examples of federations which have stood the test of time, and prospered said MP Choksy.
A Federation of States is not a new idea for Sri Lanka. The Donoughmore Commission was set up by the British in 1928. This Commission gave the country what became known as the Donoughmore Constitution and the State Council in 1930.
There is no hard and inflexible mould in which federalism is cast. It is a constitutional concept that varies with the historical and political experiences of the country concerned.
Winding up his speech MP Choksy said that the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) had to be invited to the All Party Representative Committee (APRC).

Canadian Authorities stop LTTE Suicide Bombers’ Day celebrations - Toronto
Canadian authorities acting on information provided by Sri Lankan Tamil expatriates in Toronto have stopped the main Suicide Bombers’ Day celebrations organized by the LTTE supporters this morning (Nov 27).
According to a reliable source in Canada, members of the terrorist outfit have organized the event in grand scale at Parsons Convention Centre at Brampton, Toronto. The event has been scheduled to be commenced around 7 AM (Canadian Time) with the participant listening to the annual suicide bombers day speech by terrorist chief V. Prbhakaran, the sources added.
“The organizers have put up huge video screens, heavy sound systems, and a satellite connection to air the terrorist leaders’ speech”, our source said.
The sources added that the organizers have expected a couple of thousands of Tamils to participate for the event.
“Usually, the LTTE supporters force the Tamils living in Toronto to participate for the fanatical celebration. However, this time the numbers have drastically decreased.”
Speaking further, the sources said that the authorities have shut down the electricity and disconnect the satellite connection after being informed on the true nature of the event.
“The organizers had mislead the authorities that the event was just a peaceful gathering”
The LTTE is a ruthless terrorist organization that fights for a mono ethnic separate homeland for the Tamils in Sri Lanka since 1983. Inspired by its psychopathic leader , V. Prabhakaran and his ideology based on tribalism, the outfit has murdered tens of thousands of Sri Lankan citizens during last three decades. Also, the LTTE being the first terrorist organization to introduce suicide bombers, and becoming the first to acquire naval and airpower , is known as the most sophisticated terrorist outfit of the world. The LTTE is in the UN list of shame for its use of child soldiers in war.

LTTE terrorists could become a transnational criminal empire says Canadian paper
(By: Walter Jayawardhana)
John C. Thompson, the President of the Mackenzie Institute in Toronto, Canda, said in a research paper that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) after its possible military defeat at the hands of the Sri Lanka Army could morph into a major trans-national criminal empire and all those countries who allowed them to operate could now pay a high price for having done so.
The Mackenzie paper said, “Considering the origins of the LTTE and main source of funding for the last 25 years, much of their international apparatus could very easily morph into a major trans-national criminal empire. For Sri Lankans, there might be some perverse comfort in this - all those nations that let the Tigers operate somewhat freely for many years will now pay a higher price for having done so.”
The paper further said, “Ironically, the end of the Tiger insurgency in Sri Lanka might well strengthen their hold on Diaspora communities.”
The paper focusing on what could come after the military defeat of the Tigers said, the organized criminal empire of the LTTE among the Diaspora communities has been carefully focused on supporting the Tigers on Sri Lanka. ” Police officers in Western Europe, Canada and Australia who monitor Tamil organized crime have seen little sign of pro-Tiger community leaders living the high life usually associated with organized crime leaders. But narcotics, “War-Taxes”, smuggling, and other enterprises generate a lot of money and pay for the Tiger’s political apparatus. Those activists are unlikely to want to seek honest work.”
The report declared , that first, the defeat of their guerrilla forces and the loss of their sanctuary areas might not end the violence. There will always be room for a conventional terrorist campaign until the appearance of a new opportunity to create guerrilla units. As usual, their first focus might continue to be the elimination of outspoken Tamils who feel the best hope for their people lies within the law and the Sri Lankan political system.
Declaring that LTTE might not declare a dignified defeat the report said, “Instead the Tigers appear to be about to retreat into the comforting myth of a spiritual victory as an alternative to a physical defeat.”
The report further said, “On November 27th, 2008, the Tiger apparatus abroad is expected to celebrate their movement’s “Heroes Day”. Prabahakaran will probably deliver his usual radio address. It might be via an audiotape this time lest an Air Force smart bomb has his name chalked on the casing if he shows up at a radio station. There is going to be another change to the LTTE’s usual observances. The word is already circulating through the leadership of the Diaspora that this year’s Heroes Day theme is to be “Our land might be taken, but our aspiration cannot be defeated.”
With certainty the paper predicted, ” Now, after decades of warfare, the 25-year old Tiger guerrilla force is facing defeat, and what comes next may reveal even more of the character of the movement behind them.”
On the ominous future of the LTTE leader Prabhakaran the report said, “As a secretive man with a carefully crafted persona, a quasi-public life with restrictions on his movement will probably not be to his liking. Staying in Sri Lanka, however, would mean dodging from refuge to refuge with a designated task-force hunting him; and there might only be one ending to that story.”
The report said, “After 25 years, the Sri Lankan military has the tools; technology and leadership it needs to finally defeat the LTTE’s guerrilla forces. Sanctuary areas on the Island that have long been held by the Tigers have fallen. The Tigers’ legendary bunker complexes in the jungle have been exposed by new sensor systems and blasted open by smart bombs. The unofficial LTTE capital, the town of Killinochchi- not withstanding claims that it is a “Tamil Stalingrad” could soon fall; and whole areas of Sri Lanka have been free of LTTE attacks for months.”
The report added, “There are ominous signs that the Tiger leadership recognizes that the writing is on the wall for their guerrilla forces in the field and the sanctuary areas they have long held.”
But in a warning to the Canadians the report said, “As for the Canadian government, if the Tamils who arrived here from Sri Lanka are ever to be Canadians rather than Tiger supporters in exile, then the power of the LTTE’s fronts will have to be broken. Moreover, given the international diversity of our organized criminal societies”
