ImageExpressing confidence about the on-going humanitarian mission to liberate the country from the clutches for terrorism, Member of the European Parliament, Niranjan Deva Adithya said that terrorism has never succeeded anywhere in the world.
In an interview with the State Radio, the European parliamentarian further pointed out that “Karuna Amman,” a former key military leader of the LTTE, had broken away from the terrorist outfitunderstanding this situation well.

“Karuna knew that the best way to serve his people was to enter the democratic main political stream of the country,” he said.

“He is now confident that their rights could be won only under a democratic structure.”

Mr. Deva Adithya said that the IRA which fought against Britain in the past now represents the people not only in the British Parliament but also in the European parliament as well.

He was confident that youth in the North will be able to enjoy the same rights as those in other parts of the country when they are liberated from the tyranny of LTTE.

Commenting on senior presidential advisor MP Basil Rajapakse’s visit to India, Mr. Deva Aditya said the MP fulfilled an excellent diplomatic mission, Asian Tribune reported quoting Mr. Deva Adithya.

Mr. Deva Adithya speaking of the GSP+ issue said it is the custom of the EU to examine GSP+ related issues before granting an extension of the concessions. The word “Investigation” was used in accordance with the law connected with the GSP+ regulations.

According to Mr. Deva Aditya, the EU looks at all relevant matters regarding the prevailing conditions in a country, such as labor rights, human rights, working etc., conditions before granting these concessions. He pointed out that the original law connected with GSP + concession to Sri Lanka was formulated in the French language.

He also said that” Investigation” is the English translation of the French word, and the original French word and the translation had not reflected the real meaning, the website reported.

President’s Security now Comes Under New Army Unit

Officers and Other Ranks of the Army providing security to President Mahinda Rajapakse were brought under the new President’s Guard, a unit specially raised by the Army exclusively for that purpose on the directives given by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka.

Investiture of new cap badges and headgears for those soldiers took place last morning (30) during a simple ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat premises in Galle Face, Colombo, headed by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka.

The new Army wing, responsible for President’s security will function under the command of Brigadier K.J. Alwis.

A Guard of Honour was accorded to Commander of the Army Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka who graced the occasion as Chief Guest on his arrival at the premises.

Later, Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse, Army Commander, officers and soldiers of the new wing were welcomed to the Temple Trees where all of them along with President Mahinda Rajapakse posed for a group photograph in order to mark the inauguration of the new wing.

Senior Army and Police Officers were present on the occasion. Prior to this investiture, they all were serving under President’s Security Division.

President assures a skill for life, a livelihood for a skill

President Mahinda Rajapaksa assured to further protect and consolidate the educational rights of children in the north, in the unfortunate circumstances where children were provided guns by Prabhakaran, instead of books.

President Rajapakse has underlined that it is opportune to eliminate terrorism from the world as the terrorist is a terrorist, where ever he lived.

The President observed the terrorists were still arming the youths of the North, when attempts were in progress to grant vocational training to the youths of the country.

Democracy had to be enthroned for this purpose. It will not be possible to fulfill this task until terrorism prevailed. The country should be liberated from the terrorists. This, he added was why a systematic operation was in progress in the North.

The President was honouring ceremony to declare open the Vocational Training Centre in Tangalle. USAID spent over 85 million rupees on the centre.

Action was being initiated to set up five centres in the East after once democracy is stabilized there.

Ministers Chamal Rajapakse, Mahinda Ranaweera and U S Ambassador Robert Blake were present.

No alternative other than eliminating terrorism President

President Mahinda Rajapakse has emphasised that there is no alternative other than eliminating LTTE terrorism, to the present crisis.

He was speaking to heads of media institutions at Temple Trees yesterday observed that the entire world is firmly behind Sri Lanka in the battle against terrorism. There is no state which supports it. The Northern operations are to counter terrorism and not to harm any civilian. The government’s aim is to stop the division of the country and restore democracy in the North.

The President said he recently had a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and that he was clearly aware of the situation prevailing in Sri Lanka

Even a single inch of land will not be given to terrorists- President

A government has no right to lend a single inch of land to any terrorists’ organization. I will not support for this to happen under my leadership pledged President Mahinda Rajapakse.

The President made these observations attending a meeting at Temple Trees held in regard to gather information on the Agricultural sector for the 2009 budgetary report.

Although a large sum of money had to be allocated for war purposes, the Government will not stop the developmental process of the country said the president.

The President emphasized that duty of the State officials is to encourage the local farmers and manufactures and they should be given the necessary practical support since 23% of the export items of the country are Agricultural products

The details gathered in the discussion will be used in the 2009 budgetary report and although there is a war in the country the process of development will not decrease or stop said the President
